How to Measure
You don't need a tape measure — a piece of string and a ruler work just as well. Here's how to get accurate measurements at home.
First, let's set your preferred unit of measurement.
What you'll need
- A flexible tape measure, OR a piece of string and a ruler
- A mirror (optional but helpful)
- Form-fitting clothing or measuring directly over underwear for best accuracy
Height
For kids, height is just as important as body measurements — many children's brands size primarily by height. Stand your child against a flat wall with their shoes off and feet together. Mark the wall at the top of their head, then measure from the floor to the mark with a tape measure or ruler. Record this in centimetres (or inches if that's your preference).
Bust / Chest
Wrap the tape measure (or string) around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it horizontal and parallel to the ground. Make sure it's snug but not tight — you should be able to breathe comfortably. Note the measurement where the tape meets itself. If using string, mark the point where it meets, then lay it flat against a ruler to read the measurement.
Waist
Find your natural waist — this is the narrowest part of your torso, usually a few centimetres above your belly button. Wrap the tape or string around this point, keeping it horizontal. Breathe out naturally and measure — don't pull it tight or suck in.
Hip
Stand with your feet together. Wrap the tape or string around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, usually about 20cm below your natural waist. Keep it parallel to the ground and snug without digging in.
Tips
- Measure in centimetres — Veya uses cm for all size comparisons when this setting is active.
- Take measurements twice to make sure they match
- If you're between two measurements, note both — Veya can help you decide which size suits you best based on the brand's fit
Once you have your measurements, record them in your profile.
Don't forget to include your child's height — it's used to match them to the right size in many kids' brands.
